Healthy Takeaway Options

With all the marketing hype found on TV these days it can be hard to find so called “healthy takeaway” options that actually are healthy. So as a general rule you should always be careful of what meals you eat when you're away from home. Some foods are full of hidden fat so choose wisely, a slight change can make a lot of difference.

Diabetes Australia recently published the following guidelines to help people choose healthy takeaway options that are low in fat.

Quarter pounder with cheese36.0g fat
Or Hamburger with salad18.0g fat


Half pan pizza supreme49.0g fat
Or Quarter thin pizza and salad19.0g fat


Fried chicken (2 pieces) 30.0g fat
Or BBQ chicken breast (skinless) 3.5g fat


Pasta with 1/2 cup cream sauce42.0g fat
Or Pasta with tomato based sauce0.75g fat


Thai red curry44.0g fat
Or Thai beef salad 4.0g fat

Other healthy takeaway options that you might consider:

  • A fruit of vegetable based salad
  • Ham or chicken salad sandwich or roll.
  • Fruit smoothie with low fat milk, yoghurt or icecream.
  • Vegetable based soup with a crusty bread roll
  • Low fat yoghurt with fruit and muesli
