Jane Barnes - Foodsense

My practice offers a mindful no none-sense, practical approach to assist you, my client better your nutritional practice. The ultimate goal being to promote long lasting eating changes.
Short term solutions abound and are understandably attractive! I was originally a biochemist, so understand the long term metabolic damage that can result from some of these short term solutions. I do not want you to fall into this trap. Do not despair we can reverse this damage and set up a path to improved metabolism!
Further the popular myth is that achieving your nutritional balance can be both complicated and incompatible with enjoyment of food, conviviality and social eating. I love food, I enjoy my friends and the fellowship that comes through food sharing. And it is even compatible to enjoy, without guilt, the taste of good wine with the right food if you learn how.
Aristotle said that “we are what we repeatedly do, excellence then is not an act but a habit”, so for me Good health then is not a diet but a Habit.
So much of what we do is automatic, indeed we may be oblivious to some of the poor eating and drinking choices we make. I base my support on the re-awakening of mindful eating and drinking practice so you gradually develop appropriate comfortable improved eating habits. Within that you should know I mindfully consume my favourite chocolate ginger on many evenings!
On the clinical level I have long been interested in gut function. The scientific understandings of the complicated operations in the gut have increased greatly over the last 10 years. Effective gut function is the core to good nutritional status and so general health status. In particular a strong gut increases immunity and resistance; in contrast a sensitive gut and disrupted metabolism leads to at best poor digestion, and can be the core of whole body sensitivities.
There is much we can do to improve the function of the gut, its sensitivities, its immune function, this is an area of my particular expertise.
